Welcome to the twenty-ninth edition of "The Career Edge" weekly career and self development newsletter. This is your weekly source of Cascades Edge events and information, career tips, on-campus job and research opportunities, success stories, and more.

Experiential Learning Corner

Get a taste of the various experiential learning opportunities available to students, including internships, research, and job shadows.

This week, we're highlighting the Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory Internship, which includes a $2,500 scholarship for OSU-Cascades students.

This is a combined role designed for students interested in nature-based non-for-profit work. At Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory our mission is to inspire current and future generations to explore nature and seek the stars. This work combines both learning and teaching. Interns will have the opportunity to design and deliver programming that can be targeted to a broad age range and contribute to an organization's day-to-day functions open to the public seven days a week.

Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory has three main areas of focus, the nature center which includes exhibits and wildlife ambassadors. The botanic garden, including Project Ponderosa, our campus of native flora, and outreach for native plants. The third entity, the observatory houses the largest collection of telescopes available to the public and is housed in one of Oregon’s few designated Dark Sky locations.

Chemist II/III
Element Materials Technology in Bend, Oregon

Estimated Pay:
$25-35/hour

Role Description:
Element has an opening for a Chemist II or Chemist III position at our extractables and leachables (E&L) testing Center of Excellence in Bend, OR. This position will work in a cGMP-regulated environment under the direction of a Team Lead or other senior staff member in laboratory and office settings. The position will work with a team completing E&L project work using internal methods, protocols and SOPs according to customer specific requirements. This position requires working in a collaborative manner with other team members to accomplish organizational goals, providing ideas to improve efficiency and actively contributing to positive co-worker/customer relationships through efficient interaction on current projects. The Chemist II or Chemist III will also contribute to team continuous improvement initiatives.
