Play is innate in children and vital to their social, cognitive, and language development. The problem is that adults often interfere with this natural process. In this fireside chat, Britta will present a research-based understanding of play including its forms and purpose and will draw on her experiences in the classroom and as a parent to share practical ideas about how caregivers and teachers can foster creative, open-ended play for children.

Britta has spent her career at the intersection of early childhood education and social justice and believes deeply in the power of high-quality early childhood experiences to transform lives and communities. Having worked in public, independent, charter, and international school settings, she is a former educator and Early Childhood Director currently working as an education consultant.
