Sport has long been recognized as a powerful tool for building resilient, healthy young people. Yet a visit to the local sports field often suggests that something has gone drastically wrong in how we approach sport in America. Youth sport has never been more visible, more expensive, or more intense.

Join William Massey, an associate professor of inesiology in OSU's College of Health to learn about emerging research in youth mental health and sport participation to name what's broken, and more importantly, what we can all do to give the game back to youth.

Through research, real-world examples, and emerging data from our research team, we will examine how the system of youth sport evolved and what it will take to reclaim it as a healthy developmental space for young people.

Massey is the director of OSU's 2PLAY (Psychosocial PhysicaL ActivitY) Laboratory and the director of Youth and Young Adults Research Core at the OSU Hallie Ford Center for Children and Families. His research focuses on youth sport systems, play equity and the social conditions that allow children and youth to thrive in sport and play environments. Through collaborations with community organizations, national sport initiatives, and industry partners, his work aims to bridge research and practice to build youth centered environments that prioritize well-being and healthy development.
