As human development increasingly expands into wild areas, wildlife—deer, elk, badgers, bobcats and more— need help crossing busy highways to reach their habitats. An alum of OSU-Cascades’ natural resource program, Oedekerk has become an expert in deploying remote cameras in support of wildlife ecology studies. Most recently, she has put her camera expertise to work at wildlife crossing structures along the US Hwy. 97 corridor to understand how and when animals cross the road, and the success rates of various structures.
