I hope your term is off to a good start. I am reaching out to share some upcoming Latinx Heritage Month events hosted by COCC and community partners that are open to OSU-Cascades students as well!
There are several opportunities coming up in October:
- Community Bike Ride with Vamonos Outside and COCC
- October 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shevlin Park. Bikes and helmets will be provided, along with snacks and community-building activities.
- Book Discussion: Solito by Javier Zamora
- October 20 at the COCC Prineville Campus or October 22 at the COCC Madras Campus, both from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
- José Olivarez Student Poetry Workshop
- October 27 from noon to 1 p.m. at the COCC Redmond Campus. The workshop is open to writers of all experience levels.
- José Olivarez Poetry Reading and Q&A
- October 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the COCC Bend Campus. The reading will explore themes including immigration, identity, belonging, and uplift.
These events are free and open to the public, although some require registration. I’ve attached the flyer with additional information, registration details, and contact information.
If transportation is a concern, please feel free to reach out! You can email me at pradon@oregonstate.edu or stop by during my office hours: M/W 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. and T/Th 10–11:45 a.m. If you're interested in carpooling to any of the events, please send me an email and let me know which one. If there is enough interest, we can work on coordinating transportation together.
I hope some of you are able to check these out!
